JORGE Gallent might not be that too comfortable sitting as head coach on the very first game of Derby Ace in the Philippine Cup.
He won’t have Kerby Raymundo and Marc Pingris for at least three months for muscle tears discovered in their right legs, and he recently lost Raffi Reavies similarly for three months when the mobile big man fractured his middle and ring fingers in a tune-up game only last month.
That’s not all. Gallent also realizes that James Yap hasn’t fully recovered yet from the surgery that removed a polyp in his nose, leaving him with no choice but to play the two-time MVP under limited minutes.
Yet Gallent wants to win his first-ever PBA game in a manner that may look far-fetched.
B-Meg Derby Ace Begins Title Defense Against Talk ‘N Text

Jorge Gallent will have his baptism of fire as new head coach of B-Meg Derby Ace on Wednesday and chances are it will encounter rough sailing.
That’s because Gallent, who took over from Ryan Gregorio, now the head coach of the Meralco Bolts, will have to do with a shorthanded roster as the Llamados open their campaign in the 2010-2011 Philippine Cup.
Certainly, Gallent would not want to be in this kind of situation if he could help it.
Taking into account that he will be up against powerhouse Talk ‘N Text, the debuting coach would surely love to have an all-star cast in his roster.
Unfortunately, injuries have taken its toll on star forwards Kerby Raymundo and Marc Pingris and veteran center Rafi Reavis so Gallent is now counting on his reserves and role players to stand up and deliver.

MANILA—The Purefoods franchise starts the post-Ryan Gregorio era Wednesday when a severely depleted Derby Ace squad opens defense of its PBA Philippine Cup crown against powerhouse Talk ’N Text at the Araneta Coliseum in Cubao.
Rookie coach Jorge Gallent will call the shots for the Llamados in their 7:30 p.m. tussle with the Tropang Texters, the 2009 champions who will also be playing without a familiar face in Mac Cardona for the first time in years.
Gregorio and Cardona somehow got together with new team Meralco, which came up with a smashing debut in the inaugurals on Sunday by nipping Barangay Ginebra, 73-72.
Injury-Hit B-Meg Faces Talk N Text

MANILA, Philippines – B-MEG Derby Ace hopes to make do with what’s left in its injury-hit roster as it takes on Talk n Text to start its title-retention campaign in the PBA Philippine Cup at the Araneta Coliseum tonight.
Already without injured Kerby Raymundo, Marc Pingris and Rafi Reavis, the Llamados will be without another big man in the dengue-stricken Romel Adducul.
James Yap, who has just undergone minor operation to get rid of nasal polyps, may well be forced to play some minutes to help the Derby Ace team in its adjustment stage with new coach Jorge Gallent.

MANILA, Philippines — Undersized by the absence of three injured big men, B-Meg Derby Ace will have to be quicker and steadier when it battles the powerhouse Talk ’N Text this Wednesday in the PBA Philippine Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.
The Llamados will be without veteran center Kerby Raymundo, forward Marc Pingris (hip injury) and center Rafi Reavis when they battle the Tropang Texters at 7:30 p.m.
The 6-foot-6 Raymundo is still rehabbing in the US after undergoing a hip operation and so are Pingris (hip injury) and Rafi Reavis (fractured right middle finger). Pingris and Reavis, however, are in the country.
