Meralco, which bought the Sta. Lucia Realty franchise, started its campaign in the pro league with a 73-72 win over crowd-favorite Barangay Ginebra on opening day.
Handled by Coach of the Year awardee Paul Ryan Gregorio, the Bolts flaunt the tallest and most experienced twin tower combination in the league in the persons of Paul Asi Taulava and Marlou Aquino.
Mark Cardona, acquired from Talk ‘N Text, is their go-to guy although against the Gin Kings, it was Nelbert Omolon who stood out with 14 points and 14 rebounds. Cardona finished with 12 points, six boards and four assists.
Barako Bull, handled by head coach Edmundo “Junel” Baculi for the second straight conference, gave a good fight against the Aces only in the first half before losing steam.
Sunday Salvacion, acquired from Barangay Ginebra, quickly showed he could turn out to be the main man for his new team as he banged in 22 points on top of five rebounds.
